ALEX SALMOND’s plan for the next General Election to be contested as a Scotland United pro-independence pact now has the backing of a majority of Scots, new polling has revealed.
ALBA Party want a Scotland United for independence pact with the SNP, Greens and other pro-independence parties at the next General Election. Salmond’s Party say that this would decouple the cause of independence from the SNP, pointing out that over 50% now say they would vote for independence versus much lower support for the SNP.
In a new survey carried out by pollster FindOutNow, 53% of those expressing a view said that they agreed that victory for a Scotland United Pro-Independence Pact would be a mandate to enter into independence negations with the UK Government.
ALBA Party Chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh says that the poll results show “it is time for all Scottish nationalists to debate the merits of a Scotland United Pact. It is the only way to promote a successful independence campaign at the coming General Election”
Commenting ALBA Party Chair Tasmina Ahmed-Sheikh said;
“These results reinforce the ALBA Party proposal of a Scotland United pro-independence pact at the next General Election to ensure that independence doesn’t suffer a setback because of the current trials and tribulations of the SNP.
“All participating parties in this proposed YES alliance would stand under a prime manifesto commitment of seeking a popular mandate to begin independence negotiations with Westminster. To win the election for Scotland we need to be campaigning on the principle of independence for our country not on party politics.
“ The latest poll on independence showed that 52.5% of Scots want independence. At the General Election we need to ensure that Scots are given the opportunity to vote for independence at the ballot box. ALBA’s Scotland United plan not only does that, it also has the backing of a majority of Scots to use a successful mandate to enter into independence negotiations with the UK Government.”
