This is a précis of an article from Wings Over Scotland.
Wings Over Scotland has outlined a devastating simple, practical, and legal way for the SNP / Green Scottish Government to call for what they keep claiming they want –
a vote of the Scottish people on Scottish Independence.
The SNP must use this simple, legal route as soon as possible or forfeit forever their claim to support Scottish Independence.
Step 1
Amend the Scotland Act to allow a simple majority of the Scottish Parliament to call an Extraordinary General Election.
Step 2
Use their majority to call an Extraordinary General Election.
That’s it. That’s all they have to do.
They can then campaign for Independence free from interference from Westminster or the Supreme Court.
So the current ‘battle royal’ over Royal Assent for the controversial Gender Recognition Reform Bill need not take place.
The simple and honest route for the SNP and Greens is to start the campaign for Scottish Independence they promised for 2023, no ifs, no buts. No excuses.
Actually, we are confident that the majority of Scottish voters would like to see the Bill changed to offer greater protection for Women’s Rights along with continuing protection for people who have undergone gender reassignment.
There is a danger in Wings and others pointing out this simple route to a democratic vote: the process is so simple that Westminster may try to block it. They will claim that this ‘loophole’ is an unintended consequence of the Act.
So timing is of the essence.
The SNP must use this simple, legal route as soon as possible or forfeit forever their claim to support Scottish Independence.
